REDDITCH Borough Council will receive a share of £9million of Government funding to build or upgrade new parks and green spaces.

Redditch is one of seven areas in the West Midlands which was chosen through the Levelling Up Parks Fund.

Distributed across the UK, the fund is designed to help residents to better enjoy green spaces in their communities, which will provide a natural sanctuary for residents.

The funding will be given to councils for parks, formal greens, and community gardens and can be used to build new spaces or revamp existing areas and focuses on the most deprived neighbourhoods across the UK.

The £9million will be distributed among 85 areas in total.

Redditch MP Rachel Maclean said she was delighted the borough was selected.

“Parks and green spaces in Redditch provide a peaceful space for residents to relax, exercise, and socialise.

“Thanks to this investment from the Government, people of all ages will be able to better enjoy the parks and public spaces in our town, while restoring pride in our community.”

Coun Matt Dormer, Leader of Redditch Borough Council, added: “The borough council is already making huge investments in our parks and green spaces.

“From the new play equipment and amphitheatre at Arrow Valley Country Park to the brand new café and toilets at Morton Stanley.

“This Government funding will ensure we can continue to improve our parks and green spaces for residents.”
