A REDDITCH historian is hanging up his hat after years of service.
Pete Harris, has was one of the three historians who took on the mammoth project of collating the history of Redditch.
The museum opened in 2021 after years of trying by volunteers.
Volunteers collected over 500 items in the archives and have begun to digitalise many of them.
Pete said: “I’m very proud of the work and effort we’ve put into the museum, it’s an unbelievable place.
“We started this museum because we were passionate about saving our past, when the old town disappeared a lot of people’s memories disappeared too so we wanted to preserve those memories here.”
“Youth groups such as scouts, guides and brownies have gained so much knowledge giving them a pride in their town.”
On the town’s past he added: “There was nothing which could not be made in Redditch, which has become famous throughout the world.
Malcolm Hicks is taking over from Pete, and is best placed to take the reins having spent all his life in the town.”
The museum is now looking for new trustees to help carry the museum into the future.
Anyone interested can visit the Redditch Local History Museum in Market Place during its opening times – from 10am to 4pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
