‘THE Changing Face of Redditch’ will be the topic when Redditch History Society meets again on Monday, October 10.
The society delves into historical subjects of both local and national interest with monthly talks and presentations.
Next week’s speaker is the society chairperson, Elizabeth Simpson.
Her talk, entitled ‘The Changing Face of Redditch’, is the product of her post-retirement research and is a fusion of family and local history spanning almost 300 years.
During the period Elizabeth researched, the population of Redditch expanded from around 1,000 in 1800 to more than 87,0000 in 2021, and her family members were variously employed as tradespeople in the needle and fishing tackle industries and at Royal Enfield, as well as publicans, shoemakers, and more.
The presentation will show ‘then and now’ pictures, to illustrate the changes in and continuous development of the town, as well as family photographs.
The Redditch History Society meets at the Oasis Christian Centre, 4 Plymouth Road, at 2pm, usually on the second Monday of the month.mNon-members are always welcome.

The society, now thriving again, will be moving back into the large room at the Oasis Centre for the rest of the season.
A group spokesperson said: “We are the only history society in the area which meets in the daytime, and our success means we are always looking for help.
“If any of our members – or visitors – feel they would like to contribute towards the running of the society in any capacity, including refreshments, please volunteer at this meeting.”
