REDDITCH History Society continues its season of local and national history talks with a presentation on social history this Monday, November 11, at the Oasis Christian Centre.
This month’s guest speaker is Dr Richard Churchley, a well-known local historian and popular speaker who has researched many aspects of the social history, social life and architecture of this area, as well as further afield.
Appropriately, as the nights draw in and we are tempted to stay closer to sources of warmth, Richard’s subject will be ‘Humble Homes’.
In his talk he will look at how the architecture of traditional workers’ homes differs from village to village and region to region according to the geology and availability of building materials such as stone, clay and timber.
His illustrated talk will describe buildings strongly related to place, providing homes for ordinary people and their activities.
After Richard’s talk there will be one of the society’s occasional book sales where good quality second-hand books will be available to help raise funds for the group.
Redditch History Society meets at the Oasis Christian Centre from 2pm to 4pm on the second Monday of each month except August.
