Redditch History Society is back with another meeting

Redditch Editorial 9th Mar, 2024   0

THE English Civil War in Worcestershire will be the topic when Redditch History Society meets again on Monday, March 11.

The society delves into historical subjects of both local and national interest with monthly talks and presentations and this month’s is no different.

Next week’s speaker is Max Keen, an expert on the English Civil War.

And the meeting will be enhanced by Mr Keen’s dressing as a Royalist officer at the time of the conflict.

The English Civil War was a bitter campaign that tore the nation apart – and led to King Charles I losing his head and the establishment of the Commonwealth under Oliver Cromwell before the Restoration.

The History Society meets at the Oasis Christian Centre at 4 Plymouth Road, Redditch, opposite the bus and railway stations, from 2pm to 4pm on the second Monday afternoon each month.

Non-members are always welcome, for a £4 entrance fee and refreshments are available after the talk for just 50p per person.

The society, now thriving again, will be moving back into the large room at the Oasis Centre for the rest of the season.

A group spokesperson said: “We are the only history society in the area which meets in the daytime, and our success means we are always looking for help.

“If any of our members – or visitors – feel they would like to contribute towards the running of the society in any capacity, including refreshments, please volunteer at this meeting.”
