THE TOWN’S residents are invited to this year’s public Holocaust Memorial Day service next weekend.

The procession will gather from 10am on January 23, ready to depart from the Town Hall at 10.30am for Millward Square in the Kingfisher Centre for a short service.

Astwood Bank First School Choir, Redditch Polish School and Kerala Cultural Association will be among those in attendance.

Following the service, participants will continue on to the Holocaust Memorial marker on Church Green before free refreshments and a talk in the Council Chamber.

Julia Kinch, granddaughter of last year’s speaker and holocaust survivor Iby Knill, will be the speaker at this year’s memorial and will begin her speech at 11.45am.

Councillor Bill Harnett, leader of the council, said: “Every year as a community we mark Holocaust Memorial Day to remember the atrocities of the past and help ensure that they are never repeated.

“It is important to keep remembering these events and educating the youth of today so that they understand and help build a future where this can never happen again.”
