REDDITCH is above the national average when it comes to deprivation, according to data released this week from the 2021 census.

The research measures four dimensions of deprivation – employment, education, health and disability, and housing, which includes overcrowding, living in a shared property or the home having no central heating.

The statistics show last year 53.1 per cent of households in Redditch are deprived in at least one dimension, 1.4 per cent higher than the national figure for England.

Of those, 34.4 per cent of Redditch households are deprived in just one dimension and 14.8 per cent in two.

Just 3.7 per cent of households in Redditch are deprived in three dimensions, level with the average in England and Wales, while 0.3 per cent of households are deprived in all four areas.

In Redditch, 14.3 of households include parents who are married or in a civil partnership with dependent children.

The number of single-parent households in Redditch with dependent children stood at 7.4 per cent.

Of those aged 16 or over in the town, 46.1 per cent are married or in a registered civil partnership and 35.5 per cent in that age bracket have never been in either with 10.2 per cent divorced or having had their civil partnership dissolved.

In addition, 44.7 per cent live together in a married or civil partnership opposite-sex relationship and just 0.3 per cent of same-sex couples who live together are married or in a civil partnership.

When it comes to nationality, the census shows 11.4 per cent of people living in Redditch were not born in the UK.

Of these, 6.9 per cent were born in other European countries, 0.7 per cent in Africa, 2.8 per cent in the Middle East and Asia and 0.5 per cent in the Americas or the Caribbean.

Five per cent of Redditch people arrived in the UK between 2011 and 2021, while 8.3 per cent have a non-UK passport.
