REDDITCH is ideally placed to benefit from Birmingham’s successful bid for the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
That’s the verdict of council leader Councillor Bill Hartnett after the Second City was placed in poll position to host the Games following the withdrawal of the only other candidate, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
“I have offered up Redditch as a possible host for some of the teams because we have some excellent facilities here,” he said.
“Cannock is hosting the mountain biking and Sandwell is getting a new swimming pool and Coventry too is playing its part so it’s all going to be spread across the region.
“We have the Abbey Stadium here with all its facilities, we’re ideally placed close to the city with huge potential not only for teams but for spectators,” he added.
