Redditch Labour announce candidates for May election

THE LABOUR Party candidates have been named for the upcoming Redditch Borough Council elections on May 2.

This year every council seat is up for election due to changes to ward boundaries.

Residents in each ward will elect three councillors.

Standing for Astwood Bank and Feckenham is Matt Smith, Colin Smith and Gillian Cooper.

Batchley and Brockhill ward will be fought by Wanda King, Joe Baker and Sachin Mathur.

Hoping to win Central ward is Gary Slim, William Boyd and Sharon Harvey.




Juma Begum, Andy fry and Joanna Kane are standing in Greenlands and Lakeside.

Standing for Headless Cross and Oakenshaw is David Munro, Ian Woodall and Juliet Barker Smith.


Matchborough and Woodrow ward is being contested by James Fardoe, Jane Spilsbury and Paul Wren.

Bill Hartnett, Monica Stringfellow, and Sid Khan are campaigning for the new North ward.

Winyates ward is being fought by Rita Rogers, Alan Mason, and Jen Snape.

Standing for Webheath and Callow Hill is Hannah McGahan, Mark Harvey, Monica Fry.

Redditch Labour has pledged a ‘fresh start’ for the town.

That includes not demolishing the library building and striving to keep the library where it is, bringing back a vibrant quality outdoor market and redeveloping the free space in the Town Hall hub.

Coun Joe Baker, leader of the Labour Group said: “It gives me great pride to release the Redditch Labour Party Manifesto.

“This manifesto puts you at the heart of everything we do.

“It is a plan that, if Labour takes control of the council, will bring that change and a fresh start Redditch so desperately needs and deserves.

“Your Labour team has been relentless in our goal to ensure that this is a manifesto that can, and will be delivered.

“We have sought advice and discussed our plan in great detail and I am confident that working together we will make this manifesto the change Redditch needs to get us back on track and to make your town and community a great place to live and work.”
