Redditch Labour councillor defects to Lib Dems ahead of May election

A REDDITCH councillor has announced her defection from the Labour Party to the Liberal Democrats ahead of May election.

Councillor Kerrie Miles of Batchley and Brockhill has said the Lib Dems are the only party that offer ‘real solutions’.

“Now more than ever, it’s crucial to have an economy that is fair, prosperous, and innovative, promoting both opportunity and well-being.

“Access to good public services and a robust social safety net is vital, as is a sustainable and flourishing environment with equitable access to nature for all.

“The Liberal Democrats are the only party that is committed to delivering these ideals.

She added that she aims to bring back the sense of community Redditch has lost.

“After enduring 13 years of national Conservative rule and five years of Conservative rule locally, it’s time to take control and steer our town and country in the right direction.

“My aspiration is to make Batchley and Brockhill the best it can be. Despite Conservatives and Labour holding power in the past, the promised improvements failed to materialise.

Chair of Redditch Liberal Democrats, Andy Thompson added: “I am delighted to welcome Councillor Kerrie Miles to the Liberal Democrats.

“She is a true community champion and a great fit for a political party which prides itself on working hard for its communities. We are thrilled to have a Liberal Democrat representative on Redditch Borough Council and look forward to being a voice for residents across the borough, fighting to make Redditch a better place to live and work.”

Chair of Redditch Labour Party, Robin Lunn has said he is disappointed with Coun Miles decision.

“Redditch Labour Party and the Labour Group on the Council have been at the forefront in challenging the Conservative controlled Council both inside and outside the Council chamber.

“Redditch Labour will continue to hold the Conservative administration to account both locally and nationally and we will be presenting our manifesto for a Fresh Start for Redditch in the run up to the elections in May 2024.”
