A PROUD record and a promise to do more – that’s the pledge from Redditch Labour Party as they launch their local election manifesto for polling day on May 5.
“Your Labour Council has consistently delivered on our promises,” said Labour group leader Councillor Bill Hartnett, “over 71,000 free swims for under 16s and over 60s; over 335,520 free pre-9.30am bus pass uses; abolished car parking charges on council-run car parks; invested millions in housing; funded new business start-ups and promoted and employed apprentices.
“That means you can trust us to keep on fighting for our communities with fresh pledges on the NHS, more investment in new houses and protecting people from losing their homes and more for the re-development of our local centres, creating jobs in the process,” he added.
Labour has also promised to continue campaigning to get the maternity unit restored at the Alex, for the health trust to provide local accessible services, and to fight the proposed clustering of Herefordshire with Worcestershire health trusts.
Coun Hartnett also said his party would fight for more social rented housing, would invest £1.5 million in its mortgage rescue and buy-back scheme and with partners deliver high quality low cost eco-homes for rent and shared ownership.
The party has also promised to redevelop the town’s district centres, invest £20,000 in business start-ups, deliver the Eastern Gateway and encourage more businesses to move to the borough.
Other pledges include a crackdown on anti social behaviour, to keep the borough clean and tidy and bringing better paid jobs to the town.
