Redditch Labour Party to hold Christmas Eve meal for struggling people and families

Redditch Editorial 18th Dec, 2021   0

PEOPLE or families struggling this Christmas are invited to a hot Christmas Eve meal event being put on by Redditch Labour Party and volunteers.

Joe Baker, secretary of the borough’s group, set up the event ten years ago and each year it has become busier and busier.

He said: “I have already been getting dozens of requests from the public asking for a meal as they are either struggling financially or are just not coping with things at this time.

“I know loneliness at Christmas can affect many people especially during this worrying time and it is hoped that a knock on the door by one of our many volunteers with a meal will help to make the difference.

He added the growth in need this year was epitomised by a call from the council’s own homeless officer asking for more information on how to obtain meals.

“So if you or you know of someone who needs a meal this Christmas Eve. please call the Redditch Labour Party on the number given.”

The event will be held at the St Andrews Church, Church Hill, where volunteers will be cooking the meal.

People can either sit in for a meal or arrange delivery of one by calling 07891 549333.
