Redditch lantern walk highlights Baby Loss Awareness Week

A REDDITCH woman who has faced several miscarriages marked Baby Loss Awareness Week by organising a poignant memorial walk around Arrow Valley Lake last weekend.

Having lost her baby boy last year, Sophie Warman decided to hold an event for bereaved families to remember their children and meet others who have been through a similar experience.

The evening walk started at the nearby cafe with around 30 people walking around the lake with glow sticks and lanterns.

Afterwards, Sophie raised £55 for the baby loss charity Sands by selling candles.

Sophie said she now wanted to make the walk an annual event.

“Having been through miscarriages myself this was something close to my heart and I wanted to do something really special that could help people,” she added.

“I’ve had so many messages from people thanking me, it meant a lot to them to be able to talk about their experiences with people who understand.”

Baby Loss Awareness Week, from October 9 to 15, encouraged people to offer a safe space for those touched by pregnancy and baby loss to share their experiences and feel they are not alone.
