THE Liberal Democrats say ‘there are grounds for optimism’ in Redditch judging by the response to their campaign on the doorstep.
“Our membership has grown significantly and although the wider picture is disappointing, not just for us but for all the Remain parties there are still grounds for optimism,” said Redditch Lib Dem candidate Dr Bruce Horton.
“Judging by what we’ve learned our vote has increased in the town which is a good sign.
“And frankly I think people have been told a pack of lies over Brexit and we are going to stick around and keep the pressure on and make sure the Conservatives deliver on their promises.
“We will hold them to account for the things they have said and the things that they have done.
“I’m not sure what to think of the Conservatives under Boris Johnson and I’m not convinced he is going to move to the centre.
“But here in Redditch we have something to build on.
“We have galvanised support and recruited a lot of new active members and our aim now is to ensure that the people of Redditch have a voice and those who want a fair society, a tolerant society that works collaboratively still have somewhere to turn.”
