CHANGES have been made to Redditch Christmas light switch on event as Storm Darragh sweeps across Worcestershire.
Organisers Redditch BID have said that the event will now be held in the Canopies – where the old undercover markets were – and there will not be an official light switch on.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds and heavy rain across the region over the weekend as Storm Darragh sweeps in.
The meet and greet with JLS star Aston Merrygold will still be going ahead, as well as his live performance.
Despite the official illumination of the town not taking place, all the scheduled performances will still be happening under the Canopies.
Entry to the event will now operate on a first-come-first-serve basis to cope with the smaller space.
Muj Rahman, manager at Redditch BID said: “The storm is expected to cause quite a lot of disruption, not just to Redditch but to other neighbouring areas as well.
“Everyone looks forward to this event every year, and months and months of hard work have gone into organising it.
“We wanted to find a way for everyone to enjoy themselves and be shielded from the weather, which hopefully now they can.”
