A BUMPER £970 in donations were collected from local shoppers when Redditch Lions Club held a fund-raising day for Children In Need.

Held in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, people not only freely handed over cash but also snapped up Pudsey goodies to further boost the total.

Lion Mike Andrews said: “Would like to thank all the people of Redditch who came along to our Children in Need collection at the Kingfisher Centre last Friday.

“We would like to thank the management of the centre for letting us collect there again.”

“The Redditch Lions Club members have been collecting for 34 years now and we believe we have over the combined years collected over £40,000 for this annual BBC appeal.

“Each year we see many old friends and supporters of the BBC and the Lions when they drop by our stand at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre with their donations.”

All monies collected are turned over to the BBC Children in Need Charity.

This year the club also presented a certificate of appreciation to Mary Seaman, a Redditch resident and long time friend of the town’s Lions Club, who has for many years donated various knitted articles which she has made especially for the BBC’s Children in Need appeal.

They include baby caps, scarfs, beanies and teddies.

Mike added: “We’d like to say thank you to Mary and all she has done to help us over the years.”
