REDDITCH Lions received a warm welcome from shoppers when they held their annual collection for Children in Need in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre last Friday.

It was the 29th year the big hearted Lions had done the collection and hopes were high of bringing in a bumper total on the day.

“The people of Redditch have been so generous with many just coming up and donating without buying anything,” said spokesman Dave Beech.

The local Lions have a proud history of helping local good causes and recently held their annual Halloween Walk and run around Arrow Valley Park.

They are at the forefront of helping to combat prostate cancer in Redditch, raising money for the charity Prostate Cancer UK, for the Rory the Robot prostate surgical machine at the Alex Hospital, and holding a prostate cancer blood testing day at the Town Hall which attracted 200 men in a matter of hours.

They meet at the Southcrest Hotel in Mount Pleasant on the second Wednesday of every month from 8pm and if you just want to volunteer rather than join simply email: [email protected].
