Redditch lottery with £25,000 top prize takes a step nearer reality

THE Redditch lottery – with a top prize of £25,000 – has taken another step closer to reality after its business plan was pushed through by the borough’s executive committee this week.

The plan details that the council will donate 50p of every £1 from each lottery ticket to good causes.

From each sale the council will take 10p with 20p going towards prize money which includes £25 for three numbers correct, £250 for four, £2,000 for five and a top prize of £25,000 for six.

The council also plans to distribute the proceeds to local causes only, unlike other providers such as the National Lottery.

At Tuesday’s meeting Councillor Bill Hartnett (Lab, Church Hill) said: “We will not be voting in favour of the business plan simply because we were against the idea of the lottery in the first place.

“Our view hasn’t changed. We believe other local lotteries such as the Primrose Hospice will suffer because of it.”

Coun Mike Rouse (Con, Church Hill) hit back saying: “I’m surprised the Labour group isn’t welcoming additional funding.

“I only see it as a positive thing.”
