Redditch man builds upon career with leading housing developers

A REDDITCH-based young construction professional is building the next stage of his construction career with one of the Midlands’ leading housing developers.

James Joesbury has been selected to join Halesowen-based Lovell’s management trainee programme, which is run by the company to develop its next generation of leaders.

During his two-year traineeship, the 27-year-old will gain wide-ranging construction and management experience with Lovell, including six-month placements working in different departments of the company.

James, who previously worked with Worcestershire-based Malvern Scaffolding as a scaffolder, will also study for an HNC construction qualification on a day release basis, with Lovell’s support. He is currently based on an £18 million development of 166 new homes for Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust in Perry Common, Birmingham.

“I’ve always been interested in construction and since leaving school I have completed multiple college courses to broaden my knowledge in the industry,” says James. “I have qualifications in bricklaying, carpentry and painting and decorating, as well as my scaffolding NVQ qualification. I have wanted to take a step up to management for some time. I enjoy that as a trainee, everything is new and you are constantly learning. You also have the opportunity to interact with people in the same job role which helps improve your knowledge.

“My two main interests are in quantity surveying and in site management. I will decide which career path I want to take at the end of my two-year training. I was attracted to work for Lovell by their honest reputation and their drive to build high-quality homes and create sustainable communities.”

Lovell regional director Stuart Penn said: “As a major housebuilder, ensuring we have the people to develop the new homes urgently needed across the UK has never been more important. Lovell has always believed in training for the future and has therefore maintained its commitment to building a skilled workforce, even during periods of economic slowdown.”
