Redditch man gives thanks to emergency services which saved his life

A REDDITCH man who was badly injured in a motorcycle accident is giving something back to the emergency services who saved him.

Aaron Clayton, 32, was helped by the Air Ambulance after he was seriously injured in a crash near his home in Walkwood last month.

On May 5, Aaron was riding his Triumph Bonneville in Redditch when he was involved in a crash that left him needing emergency attention.

A land ambulance crew tended to him at the roadside, but it soon became clear he needed urgent hospital care and the Midlands Air Ambulance from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham arrived at the scene just minutes after being called.

A second air ambulance arrived carrying blood so he could have a transfusion and Aaron was then flown to the QE.

He said: “The Midlands Air Ambulance is an amazing operation. I’m so thankful that the crew came to my rescue.

“I honestly don’t think I would be here without them.

“They provide a first class service and it’s such a shame they have to rely so heavily on charitable donations. The air ambulance team, along with all the medical staff that helped with my treatment at the QE, have been incredible and I will never be able to thank them enough for their help.”

Aaron spent three weeks in hospital, two of which were in intensive care and he is currently having regular physiotherapy to help him back on his feet.

As a way of saying thanks, Aaron and his family have organised an event in Redditch this Saturday, June 24, where all money from ticket sales will go to the Midlands Air Ambulance.

It’s at St Benedict’s Social Club on Rowan Road in Batchley and the doors will be open from 7.30pm for a night of Northern Soul and Ska music.

Tickets cost £5 and anyone over the age of 18 is invited.
