A TALENTED artist has donated a digital painting of Captain Sir Thomas Moore to Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity (WAHC).

Redditch man Kevin Wills hopes to raise £1,000 for WAHC, which raises funds for local hospitals, through a special prize draw.

People who enter the draw, by buying a ticket for £10 each, will be in with a chance of winning Kevin’s artwork.

Kevin painted Captain Tom after being inspired by the 100-year-old’s garden lap challenge which raised £38million for the NHS last year.

This Friday (April 30) marks a year since Captain Tom, who died in February, completed the challenge. It would have also been his 101st birthday.

“If people kindly donate it will continue what Sir Captain Tom Moore started by giving to our great NHS,” said Kevin.

Sophie Burt, head of fundraising and community development at the charity, said: “Funds and awareness raised by Sir Captain Tom Moore really helped establish our work as a charity.

“We’ve already seen the impact – it has helped us to provide well-being items and care packages for staff, as well as psychological support as they worked magnificently and tirelessly through one of the most challenging periods in the history of the NHS.”

People are also being encouraged to hold their own Captain Tom challenge to help support the charity.

“This Captain Tom 100 competition offers our supporters of all ages the chance to raise crucial funds for the charity which supports our local hospitals, while celebrating Captain Tom’s generosity, hope and his sense of fun,” added Sophie.

“They can also be in with the chance to win a truly magnificent painting.”
