A MAN who carried out a vicious assault a woman in Redditch on Christmas Day three years ago has avoided jail.
Craig Greener of Cofton Close, Redditch, pleaded guilty at Worcester Crown Court on Wednesday and was given a two-year suspended sentence.
The 26-year-old was sentenced for one count of non-fatal strangulation, assault, harassment and threatening somebody with an offensive weapon.
The charges were in relation to incidents that took place within a property in Redditch on Christmas Day in 2022.
A ten-year restraining order was also imposed, preventing Greener from contacting the victim by any means.
Det Con Jack Kimberley said: “I would like to pay tribute to the victim in this case for having the strength and courage to speak up about the abuse she sustained.
“It takes incredible bravery to talk about such experiences.
“I hope the sentencing will give her some much-needed reassurance that Greener will not be allowed to contact her in any way and should he decide to ignore the restraining order, we shall take swift action.”
