MEMBERS of the Army Forces, the Royal British Legion, Reservists and civic leaders gathered at Redditch Town Hall today, Monday, June 24, for the hoisting of a special Union flag at the start of Armed Forces Week.

The ceremony was performed by borough Mayor Councillor Roger Bennett who spoke of the vital role the Armed Forces play in keeping the peace and bringing humanitarian aid to disaster zones.

Speaking afterwards Alison Gray of the Redditch branch of the Royal British Legion said: “We are always honoured to support our armed forces.

“They do incredibly important work and it is vital we keep them at the forefront of our minds.

“And of course we are lucky to have the incredible men and women of the 37th Signals Regiment based here in Redditch.”

There will be a Service of Thanksgiving to recognise the work of the serving and ex-military men and woman for all their dedication to our country.

This will be held at 10.30am on Saturday, June 29, at St Stephens Church. Refreshments will follow at the church.
