Redditch MP Chris Bloore appointed as a Parliamentary Patron of YMCA

REDDITCH MP Chris Bloore has been appointed as a Parliamentary Patron of YMCA England and Wales.

He joins a cross-party group of MPs and Peers backing the world’s oldest and largest youth charity, which supports more than 375,000 young people each year across 688 communities.

As a Parliamentary Patron, Mr Bloore will work with YMCA to influence national policy, attend briefings and events and act as a champion for young people and families both in Westminster and at home in Redditch.

He said: “It’s a huge honour to become a Parliamentary Patron of YMCA England and Wales.

“From safe housing and mental health support to early years childcare and youth work, YMCA’s services change lives – and I’ve seen the difference they make right here in Worcestershire.

“I’m determined to ensure young people in Redditch have the support they need to belong, contribute and thrive.

“That means standing up in Parliament for investment in youth services, for better mental health provision and for access to the training and opportunities every young person deserves.”

YMCA England and Wales operates through more than 80 local YMCAs, supported by over 3,900 staff and 1,900 volunteers.

The charity’s work spans five key areas including housing, training and education, health and wellbeing, family and youth work and support and advice.

Denise Hatton, Chief Executive of YMCA England and Wales, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Chris as a Parliamentary Patron.

“His dedication to young people’s wellbeing and his passion for ensuring every young person can thrive make him a fantastic advocate for YMCA’s mission.

“Our Patrons play a vital role in making sure the needs of young people are reflected in Parliament and in their communities.”

Mr Bloore has pledged to meet with YMCA Worcestershire’s leadership in the coming weeks and to visit local services to learn more about how national policy can better support frontline work.

He added: “YMCA has stood the test of time because its values are universal.

“Through wars, recessions and pandemics, it has been there for young people.

“I’m proud to stand with them today and every day in my role as an MP.”
