THE first of two pensioners’ advice and information fairs to take place in March, organised by staff from Karen Lumley, MP for Redditch’s office, has been acclaimed as a great success by all who took part.
Some 23 organisations were involved in the event, at the Rocklands Social Club, Headless Cross, on Friday (3 March), and, despite the driving rain, over 100 visitors turned up to take advice and information from them.
Organisations taking part included the Citizens Advice Bureau, Fire and Rescue Service, The National Trust, West Mercia Police, Healthwatch Worcestershire, Severn Trent Water, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening and Trading Standards.
Mrs Lumley is currently off sick from Parliamentary and constituency duties and so was unable to attend however she said: “All reports were that this was an extremely successful event. My staff interviewed attendees on the way out, and the responses were overwhelmingly positive, including several people who had said that the event had introduced them to organisations they never knew existed, which is wonderful.”
Mrs Lumley is to host a second event on Friday, March 17 from 10am to 12noon at the Mettis Social Club in Cherry Tree Walk, Batchley, and all are welcome to attend. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided as well.
