LOCAL MP Karen Lumley is meeting with Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt today to discuss the recent problems at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
The MP, who will be joined by Worcester MP Robin Walker, is due to discuss the lengthy waits in accident and emergency – which hit seven hours last week, and the reported deaths of three patients, one of whom allegedly died in a corridor and another who reportedly took their own life on the ward.
It is also likely that the MPs will touch on the £29million which has been linked to the public consultation process on the future of acute hospital care in Worcestershire, which started on Friday, January 6.
That cash, considered vital to ensure the success of the entire operation, is being withheld by the Government until after the three month consultation is period is over with no guarantee it will be eventually forthcoming.
Speaking about the recent situation in A&E at Worcestershire Royal, Mrs Lumley said: “Although I have been given certain assurances from the trust board following these reports, I requested a meeting with Jeremy Hunt and secured one on Monday (January 9) to discuss these and other concerns relating to Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.”
