REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean has pledged to help tackle knife crime in the town.
Mrs Maclean recently met Insp Rich Field from Redditch Safer Neighbourhood team and activist Pete Martin to discuss the measures taken to help reduce knife crime.
Insp Field said: “Redditch remains a safe place to live – our police force work extremely hard and we are lucky to have such dedicated officers.
“It all starts with education. Pete is a complete hero and has saved lives in our community with his relentless work with children and young people, diverting them from violence and building trust.”
Mrs Maclean has donated to Pete’s campaign to purchase and distribute bleed kits which he is encouraging Redditch businesses to install across the town.
She said: “It was an honour to donate to this cause.
“It’s a credit to Pete and his dedication to our community that he’s already raised the funding for all the bleed kits he set out to get installed across Redditch.”
After the meeting Mrs Maclean accompanied Insp Field and his team to carry out a high visibility knife search.
They patrolled two areas in the town where knives have been found.
Insp Field said: “After we find a discarded knife, we go back to the area the day after with our metal detector and do a sweep.
“We didn’t find anything in this instance and are pleased with the search.”
