A £2.3million cash injection for Worcestershire County Council’s adult social care fund from the Government has been welcomed by Rachel Maclean, MP for Redditch County.

The cash should help ease winter pressure on the county which has over spent by £15million on its adult social care budget.

Earlier this month, the Secretary of State for Health & Social Care, Matt Hancock, announced an extra £240million would be made available to local authorities.

Last Wednesday, October 17, it was revealed Worcestershire will be receiving a share of £2,384,625.

This money can be spent on home care packages to help patients get out of hospital quicker and on support to help patients carry out everyday tasks and regain mobility and confidence.

“Over the past few months I’ve had numerous conversations with the County Council and Ministers about the need for additional funding for adult social care this coming winter,” said Mrs Maclean.

“I hope this additional funding will make a real difference on the ground and help reduce pressures facing our local hospitals.”
