REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean has introduced new tougher planning guidance for Battery Storage Energy Systems.
In her role as the Government’s Planning Minister, Mrs Maclean has confirmed regulations for industrial lithium-ion batteries will be updated to more properly take into account potential fire hazards.
In response to concerns raised by communities about the safety of Battery Energy Storage Systems, planning guidance has been strengthened and an industrial installations permit will be needed.
Mrs Maclean said: “I know from speaking to residents just how concerned they are about the safety of Battery Energy Storage Systems.
“I’ve listened and acted on their concerns, delivering strengthened planning guidance and conditions to ensure public safety.”
