REDDITCH MP Chris Bloore visited Severn Trent’s regional innovation hub in Spernall, where new technologies are developed and trialed to drive improvements across the Midlands.
The site, near Studley, treats all wastewater from Redditch before safely returning it to the environment.
The visit follows ongoing correspondence between Mr Bloore and Severn Trent’s leadership about water bills, executive pay and plans to meet or exceed government targets on reducing storm overflows.
These are targets Severn Trent aims to achieve 20 years ahead of schedule.
The company is currently delivering a record £15billion investment programme to upgrade water and wastewater infrastructure, while pledging to cut its contribution to river harm in the Midlands to under two per cent by 2030.
Mr Bloore met with Severn Trent’s area management team and technical staff to discuss the progress on improving local river water quality and reducing pollution from storm overflows, the impact of major investment on local infrastructure and the environment and the support available for residents struggling with water bills.
Mr Bloore said: “Clean water and a healthy environment are fundamental to our quality of life here in Redditch.
“I will continue pressing for high standards, transparency and robust support for anyone in Redditch worried about their water bill.
“No family should fear being unable to afford this essential service.”
Mr Bloore is encouraging any resident struggling with their water bill to contact Severn Trent directly to explore the financial support available.
