REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean has welcomed news of the biggest hospital building programme in a generation, as well as funding for a new specialist mental health pilot covering Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

The Department of Health has confirmed that even though six hospitals have been announced to receive funding, the package will be open to many more, including the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, and Mrs Maclean is calling on the Trust to come forward with ‘shovel-ready’ plans so it can bid for the funding.

The two counties have also been chosen as an ‘early implementer’ in a programme to improve the lives of mental health patients.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire, brought together under a ‘Sustainability and Transformation Partnership’, will receive in the region of £5million.”

“It is crucial we invest in better facilities as well as in staff, training, medicines and treatments,£ said Mrs Maclean.

“I have called for services lost to Worcester to be brought back to Redditch, hosted debates in the House and held meetings with the Health Secretary to make the case, and I hope this announcement will create the opportunity for that campaign to move forward.”
