Redditch mum helps make first aid child’s play

A REDDITCH mum who wanted to help ease the anxieties of parenthood is helping others become potential lifesavers.

Kirsty Anthony, who lives in Feckenham, has been a trained first aider throughout most of her career and launched Little Tinkers First Aid to help families in Redditch improve their basic medical knowledge early this year.

Former sales manager Kirsty was inspired to teach others the basics of first aid shortly before having her son.

“As an expectant mum, I became quite nervous and panicky about what could happen if something went wrong.

“I asked myself ‘if there was an accident, would I know what to do?’ and the answer at that point was ‘no’.”

After seeking the relevant training she needed, Kirsty realised this could be something other parents were worried about too.

She said: “I know that going to a training centre can be quite a daunting experience, so by making these classes available in people’s own homes, so I hope they will feel happier to take the plunge and learn some new skills.

“Basic first aid covers everything from CPR to burns to what to do if a youngster swallows a dishwasher tablet. Doing the correct thing can make a huge difference, and I really hope we can help spread the knowledge.”

Kirsty is also offering paediatric first aid to nurseries and childminders, as well as courses for students.

“It’s important to know what to do – and be confident you are doing the right thing should an accident occur,” she added.

“I know it’s made me feel a lot calmer knowing these skills because it could keep my family safe.”
