REDDITCH-born charity adventurer Taz Habib is taking on yet another fitness challenge – this time running the London Marathon.
The former head girl of Bridley Moor High School is training hard as she continues her fundraising quest in aid of the Imran Khan Cancer Appeal (IKCA).
Her challenge will not just be the run either as she has set herself the target to raise £3,000 in sponsorship.
Taz said: “As we move further into 2024 I am reminded of the importance of giving back to those in need.
“For over 15 years, I have been supporting the Imran Khan Cancer Appeal (IKCA), a charity that has built three hospitals in Pakistan to provide free diagnosis and treatment for underprivileged cancer patients.
“Through my daredevil challenges I have raised funds for this worthy cause.
“Although this is the lowest altitude challenge, it will be my biggest challenge yet as I have never participated in any long-distance running before.”
In 2018 she trekked to Everest base camp and did a sponsored parachute jump in Dubai for the same charity.
She has even pulled on her running shoes to raise money for the Rory the Robot prostate cancer campaign with Redditch Lions and salary sacrifices a portion of her wage – known as a zakat – one of the pillers of Islam – for IKCA.
She added: “Crossing the finish line after 26.2miles (40km) will be one of my greatest achievements.
“However, I cannot do it alone, to reach my goal of raising £3,000 for IKCA and helping cancer patients receive the care they need and deserve, I need your support.
“Whether you can donate financially or simply share my page to create awareness, every little bit helps.”
Imran Khan Cancer Appeal (IKCA) is the UK face of Pakistan’s Shaukat Khanum Hospital, which offers free cancer treatment to patients who cannot afford it.
Established in 1994, it was a first in Pakistan as a comprehensive care facility dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
