REDDITCH Nightstop is calling on people to brave the cold and give up their warm beds for one night to join its Sleep Out.
The event, at Redditch United Football Club, aims to raise awareness and vital funds for the key charity’s work.
That work includes preventing young people aged 16 to 25 from street homelessness by providing emergency and long term accommodation in the homes of fully trained hosts.
It also offers family mediation, learning and support to help the youngsters fulfil their potential.
“We passionately believe that no person should face a frightening and dangerous night on the streets,” said Redditch Nightstop’s Sharon Holtom.
“We would be delighted if people could help prevent any young person from experiencing homelessness by participating in our sleep out.”
Volunteers can take part either on their own or as part of a team, for what organisers hope will be a thought provoking event.
“We are asking each sleeper to raise money via sponsorship,” added Sharon.
“On the night we will also be tasking them with creating the necessary shelter from the elements so they can experience just a glimpse of what it may be like to be homeless.
“We know these events pale in comparison to the reality of being homeless. However, we hope that as we go back to our comfortable beds the following day the reality of homelessness as an issue will further support of the crucial work we do in the community.”
The sleep out is next Friday, October 11 and to register and receive a fundraising pack call 01527 66036, email [email protected] or contact Redditch Nightstop through Facebook.
“Sleeping out won’t be comfortable, so we recommend you bring warm clothes and a sleeping bag to wrap up in,” said Sharon.
