DURING volunteers week, a Redditch homelessness charity is thanking people who give their time and support to help prevent homelessness.
Redditch Nightstop was established in 1997 to prevent youth homelessness and has evolved to now deliver a comprehensive homelessness prevention support service for 16 to 35-year-olds.
There are many volunteer roles needed to make the charity’s work happen; hosts who provide accommodation in their homes, trustees ensuring Nightstop runs effectively and lawfully, social media and event support, and drivers.
The charity is thanking all their volunteers for the ‘integral’ work they do.
Redditch Nightstop provides a range of holistic support services and hosted accommodation for people homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, in unsafe or unsuitable accommodation or in need of support to sustain their accommodation.
They provide one to one support at critical moments to prevent crisis from escalating and longer-term support to stabilise their situation.
Their approach is holistic covering five key areas: accommodation, wellbeing, independent living, relationships, and work, training and education.
With support from Redditch Nightstop young people avoid the dangers they would be exposed to from sleeping rough, and can progress with their lives.
A spokes person from the charity said “It’s vital young people know that they’re not alone, that this is temporary and that they have their whole lives ahead of them.”
