A Redditch community group held a fundraising meal to help generate cash for several projects with the twin town of Tanzania.
The funds will go towards the Student Sponsorship Scheme, the Porridge Project and to help bring Tanzanian friends to Redditch for a visit to see their twin town. One World Link hosted the evening and raised £198.
The Porridge Project helps raise cash so people in Mikindani, a suburb of Mtwara, can assess maize porridge and so children do not have to learn on an empty stomach.
It started in one school and has now expanded to three to four schools in the poorest region.
The long-term plan is for them to mass produce their own maize – some will be used for porridge but they will be able to sell the rest to make money and fund other things they need.
Redditch has been twinned with Tanzania for 40 years with the four-decade milestone celebrated in July.
The link with Mtwara was forged by a group headed by Ron and Betty Passingham who together served Redditch as councillors for more than 50 years.
Today the twinning flame is kept burning bright by Redditch One World Link, a group headed by former local teachers David and Jackie Morgan.
