AN OPTICIANS has been supporting Guide Dogs for the Blind by raising more than £2,500.
After raising the cash at the Redditch-based Bainbridge Optometrists, staff have been given the honour of naming a puppy.
The idea of sponsorship came about originally after optometrist Steve Bainbridge spoke to patient Morna Farquhar who volunteers and raises Guide Dog puppies.
After Morna explained both the process of training a puppy and how they can support owners with visual impairments, the opticians decided to give their support by donating cash for every advanced eye examination performed during set promotional periods.
When Bainbridge Bespoke Opticians found out that they could name a puppy, they reached out to their clients for suggestions.
The name Maple was inspired by the story of artist Paul Castle. Paul’s positive approach to living with a degenerative eye disease has made him a popular digital influencer.
With the help of his amazing trusty sidekick, guide dog Mr Maple, Paul is a fine example of living life to the full.
Owner and optometrist Steve Bainbridge said: “We’re incredibly proud to have raised awareness of eye health whilst raising money for Guide Dogs UK.
“It felt extra special to be able to name Maple and receive special ‘pupdates’ as she embarks on her incredible journey.”
