AN awesome-foursome from Redditch are gearing up to drive more than a thousand miles to raise money for two local charities.
The 2017 Monte Carlo or Bust Banger Rally is now open for entries and Redditch residents Lesley and Steve Evans and Jayne and Pete Reynolds have already signed up to take part.
The group have bought a 20 year-old Saab convertible – in compliance with the rules of the race – for less than £500, and will be driving more than 1,100 miles to Monte Carlo to raise money for the Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation (CCSHF) and the Lucie Southall Leukemia Fund.
As well as getting people to sponsor their daring drive, the team intend to cover the car in heart-shaped stickers with messages and logos of those people and businesses who sponsor them.
In preparation for the trip – and to raise even more money for their chosen charities – the friends have also organised a live music and hog roast night to be held at the Studley Road Social Club, on Saturday, May 13.
All proceeds from the £5 ticket price will go to the CCSHF and the Lucie Southall Leukemia Fund, as Steve’s catering business will be providing the food, and Pete’s band the entertainment at the social club, who have given the use of the room free of charge.
Jayne said: “Both the charities are very close to our hearts and we want to raise as much as we can. I would love to see a full house of people coming along to support us.”
“I can’t wait for the rally in June – it’s something we’ve always thought would be really good fun, but to be able to raise money for a good cause at the same time makes it so much more worthwhile.”
The rally, held from June 16, challenges entrants to drive to Monte Carlo through France, Switzerland and Italy, all for charity and along the way taking part in activities competing for points and prizes.
The three-day crusade will see more than 100 British bangers visit Europe to experience roads with backdrops of sun, sea, sand and snow.
