Redditch park walking and cycling improvements now complete

Redditch Editorial 17th Mar, 2022   0

WALKING and cycling improvements being made by Worcestershire County Council at a Redditch park are now complete.

The works at Arrow Valley Park, saw the footpath along the northern edge of the lake widened to 4 metres, to increase accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.

The works also included the levelling up of the path, to enable improved access for all users.

Areas have been designated for the planting of wildflowers to help increase the biodiversity of the park.

The local Lions Club planted two cherry trees along the stretch for the Queen’s Jubilee, with a plan to plant more in the future.

The need for improvements within the park were highlighted as part of the Emergency Active Travel Fund.

Other works taking place in 2022, as part of the fund, include the resurfacing of the canal towpath in Kidderminster and along the Worcester to Birmingham canal towpath.

Worcestershire County Council Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Transport and Highways, Councillor Alan Amos, said: “The path around the lake at Arrow Valley Park is very popular for people out for a walk, a run or on their bike, so I’m pleased that we’ve been able to make these improvements for all users of this area.

“We’re committed to improving the cycling and walking network in Worcestershire and these works in Redditch are just one of many taking place to enable people to get out and about and enjoy our beautiful county.”

To complement the works, new signage will be installed within the park in the coming weeks.
