Redditch play park gets national award

AN ACCESSIBLE  playground in Redditch has received a national award.

Recognised for its “innovation around play” Arrow Valley Country Park has received the Chair’s Award from Ashley Baldwin, Chair of the WM RTPI (West Midlands Royal Town Planning Institute)

Collecting the award on behalf of Redditch Borough Council, Portfolio-holder for Leisure Coun Jo Beecham said: “What an absolute honour and I was so proud that our park has picked up such a prestigious award.

“And I want to extend the thanks to our residents who took part in the consultation to make sure the park met their needs as their feedback was integral to the creative design of this facility which, I am also proud to say, is accessible to everyone.”

A themed 9m high Tree House play tower takes centre stage at the park alongside sensory play, toddler area, trampoline, zip wire and an amphitheatre as well as a number of accessible and inclusive pieces of equipment for both wheelchair users and autistic visitors.

Designed by Kompan, after robust engagement exercises with residents and users, the £300k park also includes redesigned pedestrian routes and reimagined adult seating.

Also collecting the award at a ceremony in Birmingham was Council Leader Matt Dormer

He added: “We know our parks are important to our residents which is why we wanted their help to create the plans which are innovative and which promote adventure  – I mean who doesn’t want to zip, jump and climb.

“Redditch deserves the best and this award confirms that we have delivered that and more!”
