POLICE in Redditch are appealing for witnesses after a good samaritan was attacked and beaten up by two men who tried to steal his car keys.

The incident happened on Thursday evening, August 3 at about 9.30pm on the A435 between Beckett’s Farm Island and the Maypole yesterday.

The victim, a motorist in his 40s, was flagged down by a man stood next to a car with flashing hazard lights.

He stopped to offer assistance and is reported to have been assaulted by two men, who attempted to steal his wallet and car keys.

He was beaten about the face before the two thugs ran back to their car empty-handed, driving off towards the Maypole.

Detective Constable Paul Cooper of West Mercia Police said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have driven along the stretch of road close to the time of the incident, and in particular anyone who remembers driving past a car with its hazard lights on and could help us identify the vehicle.

“The two men are both described as white, around 5’10”, medium build and 25 to 30 years old, speaking with Birmingham accents and anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 775s of 3 August.”

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org
