REDDITCH Police Station was evacuated this afternoon after a bomb scare.

Local police told the Standard that an unknown person walked into the station with a hand grenade at around 3.30pm.

A West Mercia Spokesman said: “Thanks to a fast and efficient response from the bomb disposal experts from Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) the item has now been removed.

“A 100m cordon was established for a short time around Redditch Police station to ensure public safety which encompassed Grove Street, Archer Road and Easemore Road in Redditch.

“This has now been lifted.

“Police would like to thank those in the area for their cooperation and understanding of the situation.”
