WORKERS from Redditch Crown Post Office voted alongside Members of the Communications Workers Union (CWU) for more strike action.
CWU represents Post Office workers across the country.
Nationally, 91.24 per cent voted for further strike action and 92.36 per cent voted for action short of strike which means employees incorporate action into their working life such as refusing to work overtime.
Since March, workers have taken six bouts of industrial action and pay offers from the Post Office have steadily increased up to a point of a five per cent offer and £500 for the financial year 2022/23.
Simon Thompson, Royal Mail CEO, said: “Talks have lasted for seven months and we have made numerous improvements and two pay offers, which would now see up to a 9 per cent pay increase over 18 months alongside a host of other enhancements. This is our best and final offer.
“Negotiations involve give and take, but it appears the CWU’s approach is to just take.
“We want to reach a deal, but time is running out for the CWU to change their position and avoid further damaging strike action tomorrow.
“The strikes have already added £100m to Royal Mail’s losses so far this year.
“In a materially loss making company, with every additional day of strike action we are facing the difficult choice of about whether we spend our money on pay and protecting jobs, or on the cost of strikes.
“The CWU’s planned strike action is holding Christmas to ransom for our customers, businesses and families across the country, and is putting their own members’ jobs at risk.”
A Communication Workers Union spokesperson said: “The CWU want a negotiated settlement with Royal Mail Group and will continue to engage the company to that end.
“But those in charge of Royal Mail need to wake up and realise we won’t allow them to destroy the livelihoods of postal workers.”
The strikes are on Thursday 24, Friday 25 and Wednesday 30 November and Thursday 1 December 2022.
