Redditch rallying round to help former-soldier Lee remain at home

A TEAM of hardworking workmen and volunteers have triumphantly pulled together to help a Redditch family in need.

Former soldier Lee Hart, aged 39, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in November 2016 and the treatment is now badly affecting his balance.

This means much of everyday life – especially walking up stairs – can be difficult but the Redditch community has pulled together to help him get the facilities he needs at home.

Tony Hateley and his team at TH Developments and Kensi Hope Interiors, decided to kit out a downstairs washroom, complete with walk-in shower so that Lee could continue to live at home with his wife Melissa, safely and in comfort.

Last month Tony and the staff set up shop at Lee’s home in Headless Cross to transform their garage into an accessible washroom space, and with the help of a few local businesses and some kind-hearted helpers, it is now ready to use.

Tony said: “With all the doom and gloom in the world, it’s good to be able to do something positive for people.

“It’s been hard work and for those of us who were able to give up our time and a few very long working days, it’s worth it when you see the end result.

“This should make make things just a little bit easier for a good man and his family, and that’s enough for me.

Break

“Lee is a lovely guy who deserves a break.

“He’s given his life to protect our country and the least we can do is help him out,” he said.

After appealing for volunteers to help, those who were able to commit their time included James The Painter, Craig from Silver Shine, Paula Barlow, Steve Baylis, Dave Clifford, Jez Harris, Scott Edwards, Matt Dyer, Matt Holden, Eric Knowles, Jim Carroll and Dave Casey.

Tony added: “I would also like to thank Jewson’s Redditch, PJA Electrical, DB Roofing, Bushboard, Dormer & Sons, Hafele, and ID Surfaces for all giving us materials, expertise and time for the good cause.

“They were over the moon with the finished result and I know it’s already making a difference to Lee’s everyday life.”
