VISITORS to Arrow Valley Country Park can commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this June with a new community event on Thursday, June 2.

Redditch Borough Council are working with partners and community organisations to bring together a celebratory event with food, street entertainment, and music from 5pm to 10pm, finished with the ceremonial lighting of the beacons in the park with local choirs at 9.45pm.

Entertainment already confirmed includes an Abba tribute band, Bee Gees tribute band plus performances from local musicians.

Parks and events service manager, Ishrat Karimi-Fini, said: “Plans are underway to make this a fantastic event in celebration of this unique occasion.

“We are part of 1,500 locations across the country who will be lighting ceremonial beacons at exactly the same time.

“It’s already shaping up to be a wonderful event so make sure the date is in your diary!”

Thousands of town criers, along with Pearly Kings and Queens, pipers, buglers, and choirs from communities across the four corners of the nation and the Commonwealth will lift up their voices and play and sing specially commissioned music prior to the lighting of more than 1,500 Platinum Jubilee Beacons.

“Building on a long tradition of lighting beacons to mark significant royal celebrations, over 1,500 Platinum Jubilee Beacons will be lit across the UK and Commonwealth on the first evening of the four-day Jubilee Weekend on Thursday, June 2,” said Bruno Peek LVO OBE OPR, Pageantmaster of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons.

“The Beacons will enable local communities to join together and pay tribute to Her Majesty as part of the official programme of events.

“For the first time town criers, pipers, buglers and choirs from the UK and the Commonwealth will come together to join in the celebrations in their own individual and special way.

“It is wonderful to see the range of support for beacon lighting which will highlight both the diversity and the unity of the nation.

“The Queen has lit up our lives for 70 years through her dedicated service and commitment.

“We would like to light up the nation and the Commonwealth in her honour.”
