The Redditch community came together today to remember those who lost their lives in the First World War.
The sun shone over the Peace Gardens in Plymouth Road on Friday morning (November 11) as people shared prayers, hymns and readings in memory of soldiers who died in the war.
Redditch MP Karen Lumely, Mayor Joe Baker and many Redditch councillors attended the event at the war memorial and representatives from the Redditch police team, Redditch and Bromsgrove Sea Cadets joined members of the British Legion to lay wreaths, bouquets and poppies.
Children from Vaynor First School also laid poppies and prayed alongside the ex-servicemen and women, accompanied by the Blackwell Concert Band.
Mayor Baker said: “It is a privilege to come and support the community in remembering those who gave their lives for us.
“It is especially lovely to see the school children here and to see them learning about where their freedom comes from.”
Mrs Lumley also paid her respects at the memorial service added: “It is important that we remember those who gave up their own lives for those who live today.
“It is a very sad day but for the children from Vaynor – and the children all over the country – it is about looking forward to creating a better future and a better world.”
Thanks are given to Mr Barry Tansely who organised the event.
