Redditch Reserves to celebrate 30th anniversary of Kohima House

REDDITCH’S Kohima House which is the headquarters of the 37th Signal Regiment is celebrating its 30-year anniversary on Monday, May 7.

The regiment houses 54 (Queens Own Warwickshire and Worcestershire Yeomanry) Support Squadron whose primary role is to provide communications assets and personnel to support UK and overseas operations.

As a regiment it has supported and is on standby for the UK operations, including Olympic and flood relief efforts.

The building was officially opened by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal on May 7, 1988.

Kohima House is also a special place for Warrant Officer Class 2 Mark Reynolds. He was just an Army Cadet when it was opened and now, after a career elsewhere in the army, works in a senior position managing recruitment across the Regiment.

Standard photographer took Mark’s photograph this week in exactly the same place he was three decades ago.

2Lt Nick Marshall said: “Mark’s career has taken him far and wide within the military from overseas deployments back to Redditch where it all started.”

The Army Reserves provides an ideal opportunity for people to work and train alongside their day job, taking them to interesting places, learning new skills and making new friends.

Recently teams competed in the annual Lanyard Trophy event, a gruelling 40-mile hike with weighted backpacks across arduous terrain.

This year local Reservists have also taken part in competitive skeleton racing and ski touring events.

From sky diving to scuba diving, there are so many opportunities to work and play within the Reserves.

Anyone wanting more information should call the recruiting team on 01527 599324.
