PEOPLE in Redditch living with arthritic knee, hip or back pain are being encouraged to sign up for the latest Escape Pain programme.
The free six-week programme supports people with long-term pain by combining education, self-management, coping strategies and individually tailored exercises.
The course runs twice per week at the Abbey Stadium and is designed to help participants understand the condition and how to cope with the pain better.
Outcomes from the most recent course showed positive results from participants including a 73 per cent reduction in pain during the day, a 95 per cent increase in social activities, a 36 per cent reduction in the need for help from others and a 52 per cent increase in confidence.
Hayley Gwilliam, the council’s sports development officer, said: “We always see outstanding results from the Escape Pain courses and the feedback we receive from residents speaks for itself.
“People tell us they feel more confident, less isolated and are able to manage their pain much more effectively.
“This programme can be genuinely life-changing and we would encourage anyone struggling with arthritic pain to join the next course.”
