REDDITCH residents have started moving into Europe’s first virtually plastic-free homes on Edward Street, Redditch.
From the windows to the paint on the walls, the whole house is nearly plastic-free apart from items which are bound by regulations like the inside of plug sockets.
Carl Taylor, the Assistant Director of New Business at GreenSquareAccord, said: “It is great to put Redditch on the map with an environmental housing scheme.
“Plastic does not have a second life, and we hoped to build super installed, super warm, cheap houses which have limited impact on the environment.”
It took the team at Green Square Accord 3 years from the initial idea to complete the properties.
Mr Taylor urges the importance of affordable, environmentally sustainable housing for people to buy, especially when there is a lot of attention on plastics.
One of the recent residents to move into the housing is Shernaide Bowman, who said she is ‘honoured’ to be one of the first in Europe to live in this housing style.
She added: “I did not know a building could be built without plastic, and it amazes me that we are saving the environment.”
