REDDITCH residents are being offered handy tips to help them crack down on their waste over the busy Easter period.
According to Redditch Borough Council an eggs-traordinary 8,000 tonnes of waste is generated from Easter egg packaging and cards nationwide.
To help reduce the waste and improve recycling in the town, the Borough Council has come up with a guide help residents.
This includes ‘buying wisely’ and choosing eggs with minimal packaging or those which use less plastic.
The council has also pointed out that almost all of the packaging can be recycled in a green bin.
Foil wrappers can be recycled at household recycling centres.
Plastic wrappers on the other hand, such as the ones which hold sweets inside the egg, are not recyclable and should go straight into a black bin.
Guy Revans, head of environmental services for Redditch Borough Council said: “Our bins often bulge at Easter time so we hope these tips from Let’s Waste Less can help people who want to reduce their waste and recycle as much as possible.
“After all, it reduces the impact on our environment and saves us all money too.”
